Redhawk Weekly Sports Wrap Up 9/9-9/13

Girls Golf Earns Westwood’s First Ever Win:
The Lady Redhawks came away with their first victory in school history over Keenan on Monday Sept 9th at our home course at Crickentree. The victory improved their record to 1-2 and the Lady Redhawks were led by sophomore Elizabeth Holliman, who shot a school record 58.

Volleyball Goes 1-1 During the Week:
The Lady Redhawks traveled to Chapin on September 10th and came up short in their first region match. Injuries continue to plague the Volleyball team as two more valuable players were out for this match. The Lady Redhawks came back home on September 12th and demolished Dreher in 3 straight games for their first Region win of the season. This week the Lady Redhawks travel to Buford for a tri-match and travel to Camden on Thursday for another region match.

Girls Tennis:
The Girls Tennis Team lost 3 matches last week but have dramatically improved since last season. The team has been getting very good play from 8th grader Caroline Stewart and Junior Taylor Bronson. This week the Lady Redhawks host RNE on Tuesday and travel to Camden on Thursday.

Cross Country:
The Redhawk Boys continue to get better and have been led by Ereck Lewis who has posted times of 18:32 at Sesqui and 17:54 (2nd overall) at Chapin. Ereck was also chosen as the “Blythewood Chronicle” Cross Country student-athlete of the week. The Lady Redhawks competed in their first race of the season at Chapin and finished 5th overall. Freshmen Emma Howe led the Lady Redhawks with a time of 24:59. The Cross Country teams will compete in the Camden Duals on Wednesday Sept 18th and at the Lake Murray Invitational on Saturday September 21st.

Football:
The Redhawks came up short against Blythewood on September 13th, losing 24-17. The Redhawks made all of their fans proud with the effort they displayed on Friday in front of a huge following of students and community. The stats were dominated by the Redhawks but mental mistakes still seem to cause problems at inopportune times. The Redhawks (1-2) look to bounce back this week as they travel to Spring Valley (3-0).
