Redhawk Athletic Review
December 9-13
Wrestling: The
Wrestling team had a huge week defeating the #2 2A team in the state
Bamberg-Earhardt and the #9 3A team in the state Swansea in a duals match held
last Wednesday at Swansea High School. This past weekend the Redhawks competed
in the Lugoff-Elgin tournament and finished 5th overall. The
Redhawks were led by Marlon Grant who finished 4th in his weight
class, Kelvin Williams who finished 2nd in his weight class, Evan
Carrigan who finished 1st in his weight class, and Sam Flores who
finished 4th in his weight class. This week the Redhawks will host
two home duals on Tuesday and Wednesday and on Saturday will host the inaugural
“Bojangles Clash at the Castle.” This tournament will be the first ever held here
at Westwood and we would like to thank Bojangles for their support and
sponsorship of this inaugural event. Tickets for the two home matches this week
are $5 each night and admission for Saturday’s tournament is $6. The matches
Saturday will begin promptly at 9am and will run throughout the day. Come out
and support this great event!!
Girls Basketball:
Our Lady Redhawks were 0-3 last week in their games with Blythewood, Ridge
View, and Spring Valley. However, the Lady Redhawks have made big strides since
the first two losses of the season. The Lady Redhawks led a large portion of
the games with Blythewood and Ridge View but came up short in both of them in
the final minutes. Kayla Atkins continues to be a good leader on the court for
the young squad with her tough physical style of play.
Boys Basketball: The
Boys Basketball team had another huge week dominating District Two Schools picking
up 3 wins vs Blythewood, Ridge View, and Spring Valley. Against Blythewood, the
Redhawks started slow giving up 14 points in the first quarter but only allowed
12 points in the next two quarters to gain a huge advantage over Blythewood.
Their suffocating defense continued against Ridge View on Friday at the “Bojangles
Bash” as the Redhawks held Ridge View to 43 points in a 60-43 win. Antonio
Write shot lights out on that night as he was 6-8 from the 3pt line and Adonus
Lee rejected every other shot that Ridge View took inside the lane. On
Saturday, the Redhawks turned a tight game into a rout as the defense buckled
down in the 4th quarter only allowing 8 pts in the final period.
Adonus Lee and Richie Finch dominated the inside in this game as the Redhawks
extended their record to 5-0 with a 65-47 victory.
This week our Varsity Basketball teams play one game before
having a week off. The Redhawks travel to Chapin on Tuesday for their first
region game of the season. Varsity Girls play at 6:00 and Varsity Boys play at
7:30 on Tuesday at Chapin.
GO REDHAWKS!!
