Did you know that February is National Financial Aid Awareness Month? Because of this, GEAR UP is sponsoring a number opportunities for families to complete the FAFSA with assistance from those in the field as well as those with experience. Should you want to complete FAFSA yourself, do so at: www.fafsa.gov. Please be sure to use this siteonly because there is another one out there that looks similar, yet you have to pay at the end. Remember: FAFSA = FREE Application for Federal Student Aid!
For privacy reasons, GEAR UP has arranged to have one-on-one help for families who need assistance with filling out the FAFSA. There are a number of time slots so you can choose the time that best fits your schedule. Whether it's morning, evenings, or weekends - it's your choice!
When attending your appointment, be sure to bring with you:- Social Security number for the student and parent
- Drivers licence
- Most recent federal income tax returns, W-2's, and another records of money earned. If you file your taxes electronically, this can be done using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
- Bank statements and investment records (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
- Federal Student Aid PIN (for parent and student) to sign electronically. This can be obtained at: www.pin.ed.gov.
- Name of colleges the student has applied to attend (max 10 colleges)

If none of these dates fit into your schedule, South Carolina is hosting College Goal Sunday on February 22nd at three different locations in the midlands: Richland County Public Library, Midlands Technical College (Airport Campus), and Columbia International University. You must register to attend and can do so by clicking here. Space is limited and you must register ahead of time!
