Westwood HOSA students recently traveled to Charleston, SC for 3 days to participate in the State Leadership Conference and Competitive Events. Sixteen students competed against their peers from throughout the state in a multitude of specialties, including Nursing Assisting, Forensic Medicine, Prepared Public Speaking, Medical Math, Medical Terminology, Forensic Medicine, Sports Medicine, CPR & First Aid, and Community Emergency Response Teams. Most of these events consisted of two rounds of competition, requiring that students place in the top 20 on a written test to proceed to the second round. Of the 14 students in 2 round events, 8 successfully advanced to the second round.
Senior Afton Williams and Freshman Donzelle Benton competed as a team in the Forensic Medicine division, placing 4th overall! These students will travel to Orlando, FL to compete in the HOSA National Leadership Conference at Disney World this summer! Please congratulate them on a job well done, and wish them luck as they take on competition from across the country!
