FBLA Service Project

SC FBLA sponsors a state service project to donate new Build-A-Bear Animals to the Shriners Hospitals for Children Bear Cub Club. This service provides a new animal for each patient during their first visit to the hospital. During subsequent visits, patients get to pick accessory items (clothing, etc.) to enhance their animal.

For those of you that are not aware of the services provided by Shriners, the Greenville location provides surgeries, physical therapy, and other related services for children and adolescents with orthopedic impairments at NO COST to their families. Other locations also provide burn care, spinal cord injury, and cleft palate services, all at NO COST to the families.

SC FBLA was approached by the hospital several years ago with the idea for the Bear Cub Club. Our initial donations got the project off to a great start and it has since received donations for a number of other organizations, but still depends greatly on donations from SC FBLA.

Our Westwood FBLA chapter is soliciting your help in supporting this project. Chapter members will be meeting at the Build-A-Bear Workshop on Sunday, March 23, to lovingly build our donation animals. We would love to build and donate additional animals from the Westwood family. A basic bear, without accessories, costs $10 plus tax to build. Larger animals are slightly more expensive and accessories add to the cost. If you are interested in donating funds to create one or more animals, please send those funds to Tracy Wilbur in Room 336 or put them in a sealed envelope in my box. Please submit your donations by Friday, March 21, so our members can make your animals during our Build-A-Bear outing.

You can view the current menu of animals and accessories at http://www.buildabear.com/shopping/. You can also make a purchase online and have it delivered to use here at Westwood. If you make an online purchase please make sure it will be delivered prior to March 25.

Thank you in advance for your support of FBLA and our state community service project.
