College & Career Spotlight


On January 18thUplifting Enterprises, LLC will be hosting the 2014 Midlands Multicultural College Fair.  This event will take place at the Columbia Conference Center, located at 169 Laurelhurst Avenue in Columbia, SC.  Registration will begin at 8:30am and the event will end at 12:30pm.  This event is FREE to the public and will feature admissions representatives from colleges throughout the Southeast and include workshops on admissions, financial aid, and much more!  Students and their parents will be be able to meet with some of the best colleges in the Southeast.  Door prizes will be given throughout the day.  Please make plans to attend this exciting event!  For more information, please see the Uplifiting Enterprises, LLC website at www.uplifting-enterprises.com.

Westwood High School will be hosting a Decision Day for The College of Charleston on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.  To participate, students must have completed their College of Charleston application online prior to the event.  The representative from the College of Charleston will be on campus, meeting with students, and making on-the-spot decisions.  If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact Ms. Faulkenberry by Friday, January 17, 2014.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2014, Rob Mendenall from The College Funding Center of SC will be presenting an informational workshop entitled "Financial Aid 101" at Westwood High School.  This FREE workshop will cover financial aid, the importance of the FAFSA, how to correctly complete the FAFSA form, how to handle unique situations such as divorce and guardianship, options for paying the remaining college bill, and much more.  The workshop begins at 6pm and will last about 90 minutes.  Please contact Ms. Faulkenberry via email at lfaulkenberry@richland2.org to register for this FREE workshop!  

The National Guard Association of South Carolina Auxiliary is offering College Scholarships up to $1500 to three or more students!  To be eligible to receive financial aid, the applicant must be a member in good standing or the dependent of a member in good standing of the National Guard Association of South Carolina Auxiliary.  Applications are confidential and will only be used by the Scholarship Committee.  All requested information must be included in order for applications to be process and considered.  Applications and transcripts are due by January 31, 2014.  Applications are available in room 323.  For more information, please go to the NGASCA website at www.NGASCA.org.
