College and Career Information

1.  Attention Parents:  Westwood High School will be having a Career and College Fair on April 3, 2014 from 9 am to 12 pm.  If you would like to participate and share your career with our students, please contact Ms. Hefner at mhefner@richland2.org or 803.691.4049 x 36316

2.  Seniors interested in Health Science!!  The South Carolina AHEC Summer Careers Academy will be hosting a one-week summer program designed to help underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students prepare for entry into nursing, dental, medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant, and occupational therapy training programs within South Carolina. Please click on these links for more information: brochure and application

5.  Parents -  Please enter your student for the Open Doors: Unlock Your Future Challenge for a Chance to Win $10,000!

About the Challenge:
The Open Doors: Unlock Your Future Challengea partnership between the Western Union Foundation, Discovery Education and The Association of Educational Publishers, encourages students, parents and teachers to nominate a high school student by entering them in the Challenge once per day through March 27, 2014.  

The student with the most nominations will receive $5,000 for their future career plans and $5,000 for their high school!  
Enter once EVERY DAY now through March 27, 2014!


6.  Leadership Opportunity for rising 10th and 11th grade girls:
Columbia College will host a week-long summer residential leadership program, serving young women in the Southeast.  "STEP IN" will be held August 3-8, 2014.  "STEP IN" is designed for rising 10-11th graders ready to champion their own unique talents and develop a framework for leadership.  Through interactive workshops, girls will discover their strengths and learn how to use their talents in teams and leadership roles.  Columbia College's Summer Leadership Institute has inspired and propelled young women leaders for 24 years.  Tuition is $500 and includes programming, room and board.  Scholarships are available based on financial need.  The registration deadline is July 1, 2014.  Additional information is available at:  columbiasc.edu/SummerInstitute
