WHS Students Partcipate in SC Athletic Trainers' Association Student Symposium

Westwood Athletic Training Student Aides Keosha Rheubottom and Jairad Hydrick participated in the South Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association Student Symposium this past Saturday at River Bluff High School. Students had the opportunity to attend seminars taught by students in all of the South Carolina College & University Athletic Training Education Programs with topics ranging from emergency preparedness, to evaluation and taping skills. Students were also able to network with the professors and college students from across the State. Hydrick, a Junior at Westwood  remarks that the days activities were an "awesome experience," which enhanced his knowledge and skills in several areas of Sports Medicine. "I also had the opportunity to learn more about the ATEPs across the State with insight from students from the respective programs." While this group of approximately 140 high school students spends most of their year on opposing sidelines, it was an excellent opportunity for them to unite in learning to provide more effective medical care, and about the exciting post-secondary education opportunities for future Certified Athletic Trainers in South Carolina.
